3 Uptown Streets To Get 'Permit Only' On-Street Parking
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Good news for residents of Uptown, bad news for everyone else. Three streets in the area will be part of an expansion of "permit-only" parking areas, strictly for residents.
The City Council approved adding Girard Avenue South, Knox Avenue South and West 31st Street to Uptown's permit-only, critical parking areas. The new parking rules go into effect on Aug. 27.
At that time, residents on those streets who need a place to park can apply for a permit from the city. Any vehicle parked on those streets, without a permit, will be subject to a ticket and tow.
Critical, permit-only parking areas are already in effect on both sides of Fremont Street and Emerson Avenue, between Lake Street and 31st Street. It's also on the north side of 31st Street, between Fremont and Emerson.
Parking is not allowed on these streets from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. throughout the week, except by permit.
The new permit-only parking areas include:
• Girard Avenue South, from 31st Street to 32nd Street. There will be permit-only parking on both sides of the street from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. throughout the week.
• West 31st Street, from Girard Avenue South to Fremont Avenue South. There will be permit-only parking on the south side of the street from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. throughout the week.
• Knox Avenue South, from Lake Street to 31st Street. There will be permit-only parking on both sides of the street from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. throughout the week.
