3 Federal Detainees Indicted For Attacking 2 Correctional Officers
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Three federal detainees have been indicted for attacking and assaulting two correction officers at the Sherburne County Jail in early February, according to the United States Attorney's Office.
Ira Lee Goodwin, 26, Michael Scott Luedtke, 25, and Edward McCabe Robinson, 28, were specifically charged with one count of conspiracy to assault persons assisting federal law enforcement officers and two counts of assault upon a person assisting federal law enforcement officers.
According to the indictment, on Feb. 8, the accused conspired with each other to use dangerous and deadly weapons to severely injure correction officers. They allegedly used a chair and a can of pepper spray to commit the assault.
In the assault, the officers suffered numerous injuries, with one of them suffering a concussion.
All three have violent criminal records and they remain in custody at the Sherburne County Jail.
If convicted, the defendants face a potential maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison on each assault charge and five years on the conspiracy charge.
