3 Arrested After Drive-By Shooting Investigation In Bemidji
BEMIDJI, Minn. (WCCO) – Three people were arrested Tuesday night after an apparent drive-by shooting incident in Bemidji on Saturday, according to the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office.
Nobody was injured in the incident, which was reported at about 4L09 a.m. on the 3100 block of Mill Street NE in Bemidji Township. Police responded to a report of shots fired in the area, and when they arrived, they found that two bullets were fired into a residence from a high-powered rifle.
After investigating, authorities learned that the shots came from a vehicle on the roadway that was seen leaving the area by a witness. Sheriff's deputies learned that the victims in the incident were victims of a separate incident in June where Edward Michael Halvorson crashed his vehicle in a Green Mill parking lot and was arrested for drunk driving.
Those victims were set to testify in Halvorson's trial in the coming weeks. Officers with the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office arrested Halvorson and his parents in connection with the shooting late Monday night.
Halvorson, 37, was charged with felony drive-by shooting, witness tampering and transferring a weapon to a person ineligible to possess a firearm. Darwyn Michael Halvorson, 71, was arrested for aiding an offender, felon in possession of a firearm and investigation of possession of stolen property. Gretchen Catherine Swenson, 63, was arrested for aiding an offender.
All three are currently in custody at the Beltrami County Jail and the incident remains under investigation.
