2nd Wis. Man Sentenced In Maplewood Bank Robbery
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The second of two Wisconsin men was sentenced Monday to 70 months in prison for the April 2, 2010 robbery of a TCF Bank in Maplewood, Minn., according to the United States Attorney's Office.
Andrew James Larson, 24, of Eau Claire, Wis. was indicted, along with 26-year-old Derek William Lombard of Cumberland, Wis., on April 13, 2010. Both plead guilty to one count of bank robbery.
In their plea agreements, both admitted to stealing $13,709 from the bank, which is located at 2989 White Bear Ave.
Authorities said the two entered the bank at 2:30 p.m. and one man held what was later determined to be a toy handgun. They ordered everybody down, jumped the bank counter, pulled open multiple teller drawers, grabbed a large amount of cash and fled the scene in a stolen Dodge Charger. They later abandoned the Charger for Larson's Oldsmobile.
When Maplewood Police responded, they spotted the two men changing clothes in the Oldsmobile and pulled alongside the vehicle, only to have it speed away. After a short chase, the men crashed on Interstate 694 and fled on foot.
Lombard was apprehended, but managed to free himself and commandeer a nearby van. After another chase, he was arrested.
Larson hid in a nearby outside sales area of a Fleet Farm store. He was arrested later with the help of a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter.
