22-Year-Old Charged With Stabbing Mother In Neck
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - A 22-year-old Apple Valley man is accused of stabbing his mother multiple times in the neck with a steak knife.
Tyler Christensen is charged with attempted murder and first- and second-degree assault.
Christensen called 911 on Monday to say that "he just killed his mother," according to the criminal complaint.
Outside the home, Christensen was found kneeling in the front yard, his clothes, arms and hands red with what appeared to be blood.
Inside, police found his mother in her kitchen, unconscious, lying in a large amount of blood. Her neck had been slashed multiple times and one of her blood vessels had been slit open, causing internal bleeding. There was more blood on the kitchen's walls and floor.
His mother was hospitalized and placed on a ventilator. When police interviewed her on Tuesday, she was still bleeding from the neck but was able to talk.
She said that during a violent argument with her son, one of them grabbed a frying pan. But she said she couldn't remember anything afterward.
She told police her son assaulted her but that he is mentally ill.
Christensen is being held in Dakota County Jail in lieu of $300,000 bond.
