2,000 Expected At Clean-Up Of North Minneapolis
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- City officials in Minneapolis are expecting about 2,000 volunteers to turn out Saturday for a massive cleanup of neighborhoods hit by a tornado last month.
Volunteers will pick up small debris from trees and put it in the boulevard between the sidewalk and the street, where city crews will pick it up. Volunteers won't be using chain saws or other cutting equipment.
Volunteers will also move construction debris into the alley where it will be picked up by city trucks.
The first of two shifts of volunteers are meeting at 8 a.m. at Brookdale Mall for check-in and orientation. Metro Transit buses will drive them to their assigned areas.
Mayor R.T. Rybak, U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar and U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison will be on hand to thank volunteers.
