2 Teen Brothers Killed, 2 Hurt In Rollover Crash Near Fergus Falls
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Two teenage brothers were killed and two others were hurt Tuesday in a rollover crash on Interstate 94 near Fergus Falls, authorities said.
The Minnesota State Patrol responded to the scene Tuesday morning on eastbound I-94 near Dalton, which is just south and east of Fergus Falls in Otter Tail County. Authorities said a 2010 Dodge Ram was heading eastbound when it possibly hit the shoulder on the north side of the road, the truck over-corrected and rolled into the median.
The truck ended up in the westbound lanes of traffic.
The driver of the truck, identified as 18-year-old Zachary R. Kvalvog of Moorhead, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 14-year-old passenger, identified as Connor Kvalvog of Moorhead, also died at the scene.
Passenger Jimmy L. Morton, 18 of Jackson, Miss., was hospitalized with serious injuries. Another passenger, 17-year-old Mark R. Schwandt of Moorhead, suffered non-life threatening injuries. Park Christian School President Kent Hannestad confirmed that three of the teenagers involved are students at the school, while the fourth was set to begin classes there in the fall. Hannestad said they were headed to a basketball tournament in Wisconsin Dells that a team from Park Christian was participating in.
"One family lost two boys in the accident. The school is praying for the family of those boys as well as those of the two injured kids," Hannestad told WCCO.
Hannestad said he doesn't believe the team will participate in the tournament as a result of the accident.
What led up to the crash remains under investigation. The Minnesota State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office and the Fergus Falls Police Department.
