2 New Penguin Chicks Make Debut At MN Zoo

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Two penguin chicks made their debut today at the Minnesota Zoo. The two African Penguins waddled out into the spotlight for the first time since their births back in March.

Like other types of penguins, these little guys are endangered -- so the successful birth of the two males is a big achievement for the zoo.

African penguins live and nest on the southwest coast of Africa and primarily eat anchovies, sardines, herring and pelagic goby.

When fully developed, they'll be between 26-28 inches tall and weight between six and nine pounds.

Zookeepers say one of the penguins loves to swim, but the other was a little more skittish at first. They also say their bond is evolving but also sibling-like.
