2 Minn. Legislative Races Enter Recount Phase
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- They're counting ballots again in two Minnesota legislative districts.
Automatic recounts were getting under way near Alexandria and Northfield to determine if narrow leads by the apparent winners hold up.
The closest involves Republican Rep. Mary Franson, whose second term bid came down to an 11-vote edge over Democratic challenger Bob Cunniff.
The other is to determine whether former Democratic Sen. Kevin Dahle returns to the Capitol. He is up by 78 votes over Republican Mike Dudley.
Taxpayer-funded recounts are automatic if the difference between candidates is within one-half of one percent.
Both recounts are due to wrap up by week's end. Neither has a bearing on the Democratic House and Senate control.
The state Canvassing Board reconvenes next Tuesday to review the results and rule on any disputed ballots.
