2 Men Charged In Separate U Of M Burglaries
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Two Minneapolis men have been charged in connection to two separate burglaries that occurred on the University of Minnesota campus earlier this summer, according to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.
The attorney's office charged both 51-year-old Michael Cortez Banks and 18-year-old Larry Darnell Mitchell with second-degree burglary of a school building, which is a felony.
Banks is accused of stealing a bicycle from the University of Minnesota Social Sciences Tower on June 15, 2016 and pawning it. He allegedly used a fire extinguisher to knock out a plate window to the victim's office.
Mitchell is accused of stealing over 40 iPads and two computer bags from Pioneer Hall and the Education Science building on June 16, 2016. Mitchell allegedly admitted to being in the building with Robert Dixon, who was arrested on the same day on a separate offence, and another male named "D." He told officers that the other men took the items, but he did not.
If convicted, both men could face up to 10 years in prison and/or a $20,000 fine.
