2 Men Charged In New Hope Shooting Death
MINNEAPOLIS (WCO) -- Two men were charged with first-degree murder in the killing of a Fridley man as he sat in his car in a New Hope parking lot back in June.
Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said Friday that 29-year-old Damin Lee Shufford, of New Hope, and 20-year-old Adaiah Deontraie Townsend, of Crystal, were charged in the June 26 shooting death of 59-year-old Kent Lee Walker, Jr.
Both men were charged with aiding and abetting first-degree murder, aiding and abetting second-degree murder, and aiding and abetting attempted aggravated robbery.
According to the criminal complaint, Shufford asked Townsend for a handgun because Shufford wanted to commit a robbery. In the early morning of June 26, Shufford walked up a hill to the Crystal Towers apartment complex at 7600 Bass Lake Road in New Hope.
When he returned, he told others in the car that he had to "slump" a guy sitting in his car in the parking lot because Walker tried to take the gun from Shufford, the complaint states. They fled, but returned later, now with Townsend, and took money from Walker's wallet.
