2 Lakeville Officers Honored With Chief's Award
LAKEVILLE, Minn. (WCCO) -- Two Lakeville police officers are being honored for their quick response and fast thinking, but this recognition comes with a special twist.
"Normally the chief's award comes from officers, tonight this nomination was made by the victims and families of this crash, so that they might have a public opportunity to thank these officers for their work," announced Lakeville Police Chief Tom Vonhof.
Gov. Mark Dayton was on hand to honor Officers Michelle Roberts and Jeff Hanson, who helped save two victims in a drunk driving crash back in 2010.
One of the victims, Chelsea Skog, was an intern working on Dayton's campaign at the time of the accident.
"We couldn't believe how calm and poised she was through everything, but most of all, the heartfelt selflessness that she had through the entirety for her family and her friend," said Roberts.
The drunk driver that caused the crash was convicted of criminal vehicular operation causing great bodily harm.
