2 Killed In Murder-Suicide Identified
CIRCLE PINES, Minn. (WCCO) -- Authorities released the names of the two people involved in a murder-suicide in Circle Pines, Minn.
According to police, two people were found dead at a townhome on the 500 block of Village Parkway on Wednesday morning.
Centennial Lakes Police were first dispatched to the home around 9 a.m. to check on the welfare of a woman who did not show up at work.
Police found the door locked and left. A second welfare call led to police returning and forcing their way inside the home.
Inside, they found the bodies of 36-year-old Jesse Oakley and 26-year-old Nicole Meier. Meier had been shot in the head, and Oakley then killed himself.
Police say the couple were involved in an on-again, off-again relationship. They broke up this past summer and Meier moved out of the home.
Meier's co-workers overheard her talking to Oakley about meeting to work out money issues.
Meier didn't want to meet him at the townhome but wanted to meet him in a public place. Authorities said she was afraid to meet him at the home.
Anoka County Sheriff James Stuart said this is a situation where Meier could have called law enforcement and an officer would have gone with her.
"I can't emphasize enough -- people get fearful about it being misinterpreted. Or we've even heard people say that 'We didn't want to waste your time.' It's not a waste of our time. That's why we're here," said Stuart. "So if your instinct is telling you to call ... call."
Authorities previously said they were at the residence twice last summer for domestic calls. They say during one call in June, the boyfriend requested a police escort, and then in August, officers were dispatched there to respond to an argument.
In the August incident, Meier told police that she was sick and tired of the emotional and physical abuse. She never made a police report about abuse however.
Oakley did have a protection order out against him from his former wife.
