2 Injured After Motorcycle Takes 32 Foot Fall Near Creek
HOPKINS, Minn. (WCCO) – Two people were injured and are at Hennepin County Medical Center after their motorcycle plunged 32 feet near Minnehaha Creek on the Hopkins/St. Louis Park border, according to Hopkins Police.
Authorities responded to a report of a motorcycle crash at about 7:16 a.m. Sunday on the Regional Bike Trail near the border of Hopkins and St. Louis Park. When they arrived, officers found two people who were injured next to Minnehaha Creek that had fallen about 32 feet from a bridge after their motorcycle crashed near Blake Road and Louisiana Avenue.
A 24-year-old man and 27-year-old woman were hurt in the incident and are at HCMC recovering, but both were conscious and talking when authorities arrived despite the long fall. A further investigation of the accident revealed that the motorcycle was on the trail illegally, left a paved trail and crashed underneath a creek bridge. Police said one of the two was wearing a helmet during the crash.
Police suspect high and unsafe rates of speed were also a factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
