2 Hurt After Crashing Into Tree While Avoiding Police

LAKEVILLE, Minn. (WCCO) -- Police say two people were injured in a car accident following a police chase through the Lakeville area.

Police responded to a tip call of an erratic driver at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

They located the 1999 Chevrolet van and attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the van drove up on a lawn to evade officers. A chase ensued which lasted for less than one mile.

The car rolled a few blocks down the road and crashed into a tree at 188th Street and Kenwood Trail.

Police said two 18-year-old men were inside.

The driver, Jacob Patton, of Lakeville, was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center via ambulance. Lakeville Police said he sustained serious injuries.

The passenger in the van, John Donaldson, of Lakeville, was airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center. Police said he, too, sustained serious injuries.

Police said it is not yet known if alcohol was involved in the incident.
