$1M Bail For Totem Pole Carver In Death Of Wife
INTERNATIONAL FALLS, Minn. (AP) -- Bail has been set at $1 million for a totem pole carver charged with second-degree murder in the death of his wife, who died in November after a 700-pound log fell on her.
Forty-nine-year-old Carl Muggli made his first appearance in Koochiching County District Court Friday. The Duluth News Tribune reports Judge Charles LeDuc set bail at $1 million with no conditions, meaning he could return to his most recent home, in Texas, if he makes bail. LeDuc also set bail at $500,000 with the condition that he not leave Minnesota.
Muggli, lived with his wife, Linda, in the northern Minnesota town of Ray until her death. He was arrested in Texas on Tuesday.
Investigators say they found romantic Facebook messages between Carl Muggli and another woman that helped crack the case.
