1-Year-Old, 9-Year-Old Thrown From Vehicle In Crash
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WCCO) -- Three people, including two children, were injured after being launched from a car when the driver lost control and struck a barrier on Interstate 94 in Wisconsin.
The crash happened on June 4, at approximately 6:44 a.m. on I-94 westbound at the Foster exit.
According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, the vehicle lost control around milepost 81, struck a barrier, went across two lanes of traffic and up an embankment before rolling over. The vehicle finally came to rest in a drainage ditch, east of the off ramp.
Those injured in the crash may have flown 75 feet before landing in the grassy ditch.
Lt. Jeff Lorentz, of the Wisconsin State Patrol, says it's nothing but miraculous that they survived the crash.
Two children, ages 1 and 9, were not properly restrained in the vehicle and were ejected. One-year-old Raenyia Porter was transported by helicopter to Rochester with injuries, while 9-year-old Briana Wade was transported via ambulance to Mayo Health Systems in Eau Claire. Both suffered non-life threatening injuries.
"Nobody was buckled," Lorentz said. "We didn't have any booster seats, we didn't have any child restraint seats used."
However, those devices were inside the car, Lorentz said.
The driver, 27-year-old Tenisha Wade of Maplewood, Minn., was trapped and extricated from the vehicle. She was transported by ambulance to Mayo Health Systems in Eau Claire, as well. She also suffered non-life threatening injuries.
"They were very, very fortunate," Lorentz said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
