22-Year-Old Wis. Man Dies In Minn. Towboat Accident
DRESBACH, Minn. (WCCO) -- The body of a 22-year-old Wisconsin man has been recovered after the towboat he was in went over the rollers of the Dresbach dam in eastern Minnesota.
According to Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand, the man's body was found on the second floor of the Megan McB tugboat around 3:15 p.m. His lifejacket was still on, WKBT reports.
The company that owns the boat says high water and fast current speeds swept the towboat through the roller gates on the dam. That destabilized the boat, causing it to take on water. It happened shortly after 6:15 a.m.
Two crew members escaped and were not seriously hurt. They are also from Wisconsin.
The chief deputy says divers will be coming to go down into the towboat.
About 5 miles of the river is now shut down.
Wednesday's accident happened in the same place where nearly a dozen people had to be rescued from a houseboat after it was swept over the dam earlier this spring.
