$1 Million Bail Set For St. Paul Man Accused Of Rape, Burglary
ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) – A St. Paul man was charged Friday with multiple crimes relating to a home invasion on Wednesday which led to a sexual assault and robbery.
According to the Ramsey County Attorney's office, 18-year-old Curtez DeShawn Graham was charged with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, three counts of first-degree burglary, two counts of kidnapping and one count of first-degree robbery.
Graham allegedly entered a St. Paul home in the 1100 block of Portland Avenue by breaking a window early Wednesday morning. This home was the same location that Graham had entered twice illegally in October and November of 2011. On both occasions, he robbed the homeowner, a 65-year-old woman.
During the November robbery, Graham stole the homeowner's iPhone and later tried to sell it at school. He was arrested and admitted to both robberies, which led him to be adjudicated delinquent of first-degree burglary for both.
Graham later ended up serving 14 months at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Red Wing after a series of crimes, including brandishing a knife and leaving a St. Paul youth detention center without permission.
On June 10, Graham was furloughed from Red Wing for 10 days, and was ordered to wear an ankle bracelet monitor. After finding a job at a Subway restaurant, his furlough was extended. But soon after, Graham stopped showing up to work and removed the ankle bracelet.
Authorities began to search for Graham, and also warned the woman who he had robbed twice.
On the morning of June 19, Graham illegally entered the woman's home for a third time. The woman and a male where in bed at the time, and awoke to Graham standing naked in the room, holding a pair of scissors.
Graham told the male to put a pair of underwear in his mouth and tie himself up, and repeatedly threatened to kill him.
Next, Graham told the woman to lie on the bed and spread her legs. He briefly raped the woman, then ordered her to go to the bathroom to urinate, wash between her legs and shower in an attempt to conceal the sexual assault.
He then told the woman to exit the shower and give him $100, but she was only able to give him $75. They went to the kitchen on a floor below the bedroom, where he then ordered her to empty her coin purse. He took the contents and her cell phone.
After searching through a closet, Graham ordered the couple back to their bed and told them to count to 100 before leaving the room.
The woman told police that Graham had blamed her for his 14 months in Red Wing.
Graham was arrested near Ashland Avenue and Grotto Street at 11 p.m. Wednesday night. He told police that he had been drinking with friends and decided to break in to the woman's house to scare her and send her a message.
He told police that he stopped raping the woman because he's "not that kind of person."
He is currently being held at Ramsey County Jail on $1 million bail.
