1 Injured, 1 In Custody In Stearns County Stabbing
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – One man is injured and another is in custody following an early morning stabbing in Stearns County.
According to the Stearns County Sheriff's Department, shortly before 2:45 a.m. officers responded to a report of a man, later identified as 20-year-old Justin Kunkel of Cold Spring, with several stab wounds at St. Cloud Hospital.
Upon arrival, officers learned the stabbing occurred at a home on the south side of Pearl Lake in Maine Prairie Township.
Kunkel's father, who had brought him to the hospital, was able to lead deputies to the exact home.
According to the Stearns County Sheriff's Department, several men were at the residence and were questioned about the stabbing.
Witnesses told police that Kunkel was arguing with 20-year-old Jon Gately, of Cold Spring. At some point during the argument, Gately pulled out a knife. Kunkel ran toward Gately, tackling him to the ground. While on the ground, Kunkel received the stab wounds.
Police said Kunkel's father was then called to take him to the hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
Gately was arrested and is being held pending formal charges.
The stabbing is currently under investigation.
