1 Firefighter Injured After Overnight Fire In Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A massive fire broke out overnight in Minneapolis Thursday.

According to the Minneapolis Fire Department, around 1:30 a.m. crews responded to a call of a fire in the 3700 block of Park Avenue South.

Crews believe the fire started at the back of the home and spread to the front.

A gas meter caught fire, and the gas company was called out to turn it off. Additionally, power lines near the fire were burned away and fell to the ground, so Xcel Energy had to be called to deal with the damage.

Six people were in the home, but all were able to make it out safely. A woman, who lives behind the house that caught fire, was also found safe.

Crews said they also cleared the home next door out of fear that that home could be damaged as well.

One firefighter was injured, but officials have not said the extent of the injuries.

Additional crews had to be called in to help fight the flames and a Metro Transit bus was brought to the scene to keep crews warm.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
