1 Dead In St. Croix Co. Crash
HUDSON, Wis. (WCCO) - A two-vehicle crash in St. Croix County has left one man dead and another with serious injuries Thursday evening.
According to the St. Croix County Sheriff's office, the fatal accident occurred at 5:24 p.m. on Highway 63, approximately one-quarter miles east of 240th Street in Cylon Township.
Isrrael Romos of Clear Lake, 33, was driving a 2000 Honda Civic westbound on HWY 63, and for unknown reasons, he crossed the center line.
A 1991 Chevrolet Suburban, driven by 46-year-old Daniel J. Rittman of Menomonie, Wis., struck the passenger side of the Civic.
Romos was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with serious injuries. His passenger, 25-year-old Rolando Ontiveros-Contreras, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was from Clear Lake, Wis.
Dittman was not injured. All occupants were wearing seat belts.
Authorities say roads were slick at the time, which could have been a factor in the crash.
The accident is currently under investigation.
