2 Dead After Semi, SUV Crash On I-94 Near Hudson
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Two people are dead after a semi and a SUV collided on Interstate 94 just east of Hudson, Wis., according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.
Authorities said the collision happened around 1:20 p.m. on I-94 at Highway 35 in Wisconsin. Eastbound traffic was being rerouted off of I-94 at Highway 35 to let emergency personnel and helicopters respond to the scene.
Chief Kim Eby, of St. Croix EMS and Rescue, said the SUV was a Dodge Durango and that it appears to have hit the back of a flat-bed semi. There were four people in the SUV, and all suffered injuries.
"It sounds like the truck driver had to slow down for traffic," she said. "And we don't know if he (the SUV driver) didn't see him."
The Durango's driver and front seat passenger suffered critical injuries, authorities said. One rear seat passenger suffered minor injuries while the other rear seat passenger died at the scene.
The front seat passenger died later at Regions Hospital, authorities said.
The victims' identities are being withheld until their families have been notified.
The semi's driver, 34-year-old Paul A. Davis, of Cadott, Wis., suffered no injuries.
Traffic was snarled for a few hours following the crash.
Authorities are still investigating.
