1 Dead, 9 Injured in Wis. Crash Between Car, 10 bikes
MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) — Sheriff's officials say motorcyclists involved in a fatal highway crash in eastern Wisconsin are all from Muskegon County, Mich.
One of the 12 bikers in the group, 59-year-old Daniel Winsemius, of Twin Lake, Mich., was killed in the crash in Fond du Lac County that also injured nine others Thursday afternoon.
Authorities say the 25-year-old Hilbert man driving the car that crossed the center line on Highway 151 in the Town of Taycheedah is among those hospitalized. Investigators say the car hit 10 of the 12 motorcycles.
Five motorcyclists remain hospitalized. They include 52-year-old Eric Vandam, 58-year-old Douglas Williams, 43-year-old Douglas Yonkers, 52-year-old Garry Ferris and 59-year-old Leland Johnson, all of Muskegon. Vandam, Willliams and Yonkers are in critical condition at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah.
The bikers are members of the Muskegon Motorcycle Gang. Fellow Muskegon Motorcycle Gang member Jeremy Gradisher remembers Winsemius as a long-time member of the group whom everyone liked.
A prayer vigil for Winsemius and those hurt in the crash is to be held Friday in Muskegon.
The Muskegon Chronicle reports the riders were taking part in an annual run to the Mackinac Bridge.
