1 Dead, 2 Hurt After Two Vehicle Rollover In NW Metro
ST. MICHAEL, Minn. (WCCO) – The Minnesota State Patrol is on the scene of a fatal rollover accident involving two vehicles Thursday afternoon in the Twin Cities northwest metro.
Lt. Eric Roeske said the accident happened at about 3:15 p.m. on Highway 101 and County Road 36 in St. Michael, which is in Wright County. The Minnesota State Patrol said one person was killed and at least two others were hurt. Two vehicles were involved in the accident.
The Minnesota State Patrol said a 2004 Ford Taurus was traveling northbound on Highway 101 as a 1999 Mercedes was merging onto the highway from County Road 36. The Mercedes sped up to merge, and the Taurus slammed on its breaks as it went from the left lane to the right lane to avoid crashing. The back end of the Taurus lost control, went back into the left lane and hit the back end of the Mercedes, causing both vehicles to rollover into the ditch.
The names of the people involved in the crash are expected to be released by authorities on Friday.
The cause of the accident is under investigation. The State Patrol was assisted by the Elk River Police Department and the Wright County Sheriff's Office.
