1 Dead, 1 Hurt In Minneapolis Shooting
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Police say one person is dead following a shooting near the intersection of 23rd and Fremont Avenue North in Minneapolis.
The shooting happened at about 3:40 p.m. Tuesday. One other person was injured by gunfire.
Police said 17-year-old Jemario Zid Langston, of Minneapolis, died of multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim who survived is a 16-year-old boy.
On Wednesday, Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges released a statement about the homicide.
Jemario Langston was killed yesterday, another victim of gun violence. I offer my sincere condolences to his family, friends and the community who knew him.
Gun violence is not a theory. We see it too often in our city. Needing to end gun violence is not a theory.
Along with partners all across the community I spend part or all of almost every day working toward that goal. Loving our kids - all of our kids, the kids of our collective community - is not a theory.
We practice it every day with the kids we know. The invitation is to practice it every day with the kids we don't know. All of them.
MPD is diligently working to find those responsible for this death and intercept further retaliatory actions. I continue to work with the community and our partners to engage our youth and find ways to end gun violence."
Minneapolis Police say they don't have any suspects, but don't think the shooting was random. They ask anyone with information to contact them.
