Man Arrested In Connection With St. Paul Double Homicide

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 24-year-old man is in custody in connection with Thursday's double homicide in St. Paul's Uppertown neighborhood.

Jamaine Jamie Williams, of St. Paul, was arrested Friday, and faces two counts of second-degree murder and one count of attempted second-degree murder.

Police responded early Thursday morning to a report of a shooting at a residence on the 270 block of Forbes Avenue.

While en route, officers discovered a man laying on the sidewalk at the intersection of Smith Avenue and West 7th Street. He had been shot several times.

Other officers then went to the Forbes address, where they found two men dead in a room; one had been shot several times and was laying on a handgun, while the other had one gunshot wound to the head and one to the ankle.

Two women who lived at the residence identified the shooter as Williams. One said he came to the door and said he was police. When she opened the door, he pointed a gun at her stomach and told her to get out of the way. She said she heard him fire several shots as she fled the house.

That woman also said she had recently broke up with Williams and had children with him. She said he had recently assaulted her and threatened to kill everyone in her residence, which was not reported to police. She said he was jealous of her new boyfriend, who was one of the men killed. The other man killed had been dating her roommate.

The third man who was shot and survived had jumped out of an upper-floor window and fled to the intersection, where police eventually found him. Police say he is in serious condition at Regions Hospital and has not been able to assist them in the investigation.

Police tracked down Williams about 13 hours after the shooting at a Bloomington residence. He denied any connection to the shooting and changed aspects of his story during interrogation.

Williams has been charged in the past for five different gun-related crimes, the first of which when he was 17.

His bail was set Friday at $2 million and he could face up to 100 years in prison if convicted on all counts.
