Zimmerman's Mother Releases Letter Critical Of Justice System
SANFORD (CBSMiami) – George Zimmerman's mother, Gladys, has released a letter to the public on the one-year anniversary of her son's arrest that is critical of the justice system and how the shooting death of Trayvon Martin has been handled.
George Zimmerman has admitted to shooting Martin to death in February 2012, but said he was acting in self-defense under Florida's stand your ground law.
Gladys Zimmerman's letter was originally written in Spanish and then translated by her son, Robert, who then released the letter on his Twitter account.
Zimmerman's mother said April 11, 2012 will "forever be remembered by the Zimmerman family as the day the justice system failed us as Americans." She went on to say that a false narrative has been created thanks to the heavy publicity on the case.
George Zimmerman faces second-degree murder charges for Martin's death. He is scheduled to go on trial in June.
