Zimmerman's Former Attorney Faces Bar Complaint
ORLANDO (CBSMiami/AP) — Mark O'Mara, the attorney who helped get George Zimmerman acquitted of murder charges in the case of Trayvon Martin, is now being investigated by the Florida Bar after a complaint was filed against him.
Florida Bar spokeswoman Francine Walker said in an email Tuesday that there was a pending complaint against Mark O'Mara regarding his representation of Zimmerman.
She said the complaint is at the "staff investigation level" and that she couldn't provide any further information due to confidentiality rules.
A spokesman for O'Mara said he planned to release a statement later Tuesday. He no longer represents Zimmerman in criminal matters.
A complaint doesn't necessarily lead to discipline. Of more than 7,000 complaint files opened this year, roughly 200 have led to discipline.
Zimmerman was acquitted in the shooting death of Miami teen Trayvon Martin earlier this year.
Zimmerman, who was a neighborhood watch volunteer, said he shot the unarmed, black teenager in self-defense during a confrontation in February 2012 inside a gated community in Sanford, just outside Orlando.
