Zimmerman's Attorney Wants A New Judge
ORLANDO (CBSMiami/AP) – A lawyer for George Zimmerman, the Sanford neighborhood watch captain who shot and killed 17-year old Trayvon Martin, wants a new judge.
Zimmerman's attorney, Mark O'Mara, has filed a motion to have Circuit Judge Jessica Recksiedler removed from the case after she revealed a potential conflict of interest.
Judge Recksiedler said her conflict dealt with her husband who is partner in Mark NeJame's law firm. NeJame is now serving as a legal analyst for CNN in the Martin case.
NeJame was first approached by Zimmerman's family to represent him in his trial on second degree murder for the death of Martin.
Zimmerman, who has pled not guilty, claims he shot Martin in self-defense.
"What I don't want to happen is to wait a month or two, and then we find out that what we thought is a potential conflict is an actual conflict," O'Mara told reporters outside the Seminole County Criminal Justice Center.
Chief Judge Alan Dickey will rule on the request from O'Mara.
