Zimmerman Jury Got Manis, Pedis, Went To The Movies
SANFORD (CBSMiami) – Manis, pedis and movies were included in the 22 days of sequestration for the six women jury in the trial of George Zimmerman.
The Seminole County Sheriff's Office said each of the jurors had a private room at the Marriott on International Parkway in Lake Mary. The women reportedly got together frequently in a suite for meals and to socialize. They watched television and movies, exercised at the hotel fitness center, and spent weekends being visited by family and friends.
During the sequestration, they could also request visits from members of the religious community.
Most breakfast and dinner meals were provided through the hotel. They dined out twice – once at an Outback Steakhouse in Sanford and the other time at Amigo's in Altamonte Springs. Dinner was also brought in from Giovanni's in Lake Mary. Lunches typically took place at the courthouse with lunch brought in from area restaurants. The group went out for lunch twice, both times to Senior Tequila's in Winter Springs.
Weekend and evening excursions included bowling, shopping at the Volusia Mall, a day and dinner in St. Augustine where they visited the Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum, manicures and pedicures, and watching fireworks on the fourth of July. They also went to the movies to see "World War Z" and "The Lone Ranger."
All television, internet use, reading materials, mail, and phone calls were screened, monitored and logged to make sure they were exposed to any information about the trial.
The Seminole County Clerk of the Court picked up the tab for juror meals and lodging. The sheriff's office paid for the movie and bowling excursions and the Ripley's admission. In total, sequestration costs were approximately $33,000.
Preliminary figures indicate sheriff's office spent approximately $320,000 on overtime, equipment and other trial-related expenses.
