Zambrano May Be Next Marlins Target
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – The soon-to-be Miami Marlins facelift has started with Ozzie Guillen coming to manage the team.
The attention now turns to the Marlins roster and one name that could be at the top of the list is former Chicago Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano.
According to ESPN.com, both have a close, personal relationship. ESPN said that Guillen has said if Zambrano was ever on his team, he and his staff would help him have the best season he has ever had.
But, Zambrano quit the Cubs on August 12 after allowing five home runs. It would be a tough sell to Marlins fans accustomed to losing to bring in a player who quit on his team this year.
Zambrano has pitched for the Cubs since 2001. He's won double-digit games in seven different seasons with the Cubs, which is no easy feat given the Cubs' futility in recent years.
Before quitting the Cubs this season, Zambrano was 9-7 with a 4.82 ERA in 24 games; his strikeout to walk ratio was 101-56 for the 2011 season.
