Wrestlemania Impact Could Be Huge
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – Wrestlemania XXVIII, set for April 1, 2012 at Sun Life Stadium, could become a financial shot-in-the-arm the area desperately needs with no Super Bowls scheduled in South Florida for the next five years.
Monday, the WWE announced just how much of an impact Wrestlemania can have on an area, using last year's Wrestlemania XXVII in Atlanta as an example.
According to the WWE, Wrestlemania generated $62.1 million in economic impact on Atlanta. The event drew a sell-out crowd of 71,617 from all 50 states and 30 countries.
In addition, the economic impact derived from Wrestlemania Week equated to the creation of 621 full-time jobs for the area.
The $62.1 million was a new record economic impact for Wrestlemania and was an increase of roughly $17 million increase over Wrestlemani XXVI.
The WWE said Wrestlemania also generated approximately $7.8 million in local, county, and sales taxes.
When breaking down the numbers, the WWE said that 52 percent of fans that attended Wrestlemania were between the ages of 20 and 34; 20 percent were between the ages of 35 and 49, and 21 percent were under the age of 20.
Those numbers do bring into question why the WWE continues to market towards kids under the age of 18 in their television shows.
Wrestlemania XXVIII is set for Sunday, April 1 at Sun Life Stadium and so far, the only match scheduled is John Cena facing Miami hero, The Rock.
