Worker Stabbed At Sunset Place Released From Hospital
MIAMI (CBS4) - The victim of a stabbing at the Shops at Sunset Place Tuesday afternoon must deal with a tragic loss as he recovers from his injuries.
Upon being released from the hospital Wednesday, Jimmy Womble learned his elderly mother died that morning.
Womble's mother was 90 years old. She had adopted Womble when he was younger.
Womble, 23, is expected to fully recover from the injuries he sustained when a man stabbed him at the Shops at Sunset Place over an $8 parking fee.
His sister, Patricia Blackmon, said Wednesday her brother is doing fine despite injuries to his chest and arm.
She says his focus now is mourning the loss of his mother.
"It's a little bit hard to try to deal with one thing, but we know the Lord puts no more on us than we bear," Blackmon said. "So, am I dealing with it? As best I possibly can. "
The suspect, Juan Felipe Rodriguez, 19, turned himself in to police Wednesday morning.
"I'm glad he did the right thing," Blackmon said.
The funeral for Womble and Blackmon's mother is planned for next week.
