BROWARD (CBSMiami) – Gloria Lewis is dedicated to preparing food. She does this weekly, making as many as 300 hundred meals for the homeless.
On Thursday, her mission was still cooking related. But this time, the meals were for the men and women who protect the community.
"The first person we call when something goes wrong is a cop," she said. "How can we show those officers that everybody is not against them? What can we do?"
It was all smiles at the Broward Sheriff's Office, as a bunch of very happy deputies chowed down on some home cooking made with love and appreciation.

"I told myself, 'We got to go down to the station and I am just going to cook some food for the officers and take it over there and say thank you for putting your life on the line every day,'" she told CBS4's Hank Tester.
Lewis said it has been a very tough time for the nation's police officers – unrest, questionable shootings and then Dallas. The funerals and memorials are ongoing. Police across the nation asking for support from the communities they serve.
"There is too much going on in the world. We need to calm down and put love first, put the other person first," Lewis said.
Of course it is a small gesture, but a ray of light in this stressful time.
