Woman Killed After Shots Fired Into Pembroke Pines Home
PEMBROKE PINES (CBSMiami) – Bullets shot into a Pembroke Pines home early Friday morning left a woman dead and police looking for a motive.
According to Pembroke Pines police spokesman Captain Al Xiques, officers were called to the home at 8462 SW 14th Street in the Honeywoods development around 12:30 a.m. after neighbors heard gunshots being fired.
Linda McNamara, 61, who was inside her bedroom and heard the shots, was struck by the gunfire after getting out of bed to investigate.
Police found bullet holes in her bedroom window.
"I heard the gunshots," said neighbor Pete Balcarce, who has lived next door to the McNamara's for more than 8 years. "By the time I grabbed my gun and ran out, it was eight seconds later."
McNamara, a much loved grandmother, was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital where she later died.
"Dave came out, I was here. Her husband, he was crying and yelling, 'why, why my wife? Why my best friend?'" said Balcarcy. "Linda was a wonderful mom, great person, giving and wonderful lady."
Residents in the neighborhood said they have no idea why Linda could have been targeted, but some have noticed activity around the home.
"I've seen her around. I've seen some activity, some strange activity back and forth," said neighbor Julio Santana.
"The only concern I have is because there's so many children in the neighborhood. They're always outside playing in the same area not too far from where it happened," said neighbor Meyra Garcia.
Neighbors were on edge and said they did see a car creeping through the neighborhood after the shooting took place
Police do not have information on a suspect, motive, or whether this was just a random drive-by shooting.
Police said other family members were inside the home at the time of the shooting. Nobody else was hurt.
