Woman & Dog Stabbed To Death; Ex-Boyfriend In Custody
MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) – Miami Gardens police have a man in custody after he allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend and her dog to death and also injured the dead woman's daughter.
Police said Alphonso Gerard Lucas, 39, turned himself in to police.
Police said he stabbed 42-year-old Terrilyn Gray Monday night.
Family and friends of the beloved mother and grandmother were overcome with emotion when they heard the news.
"I don't understand," said Lashonda Bowden, Gray's cousin. "I don't know what made him do that but I wish he didn't do this."
Terrilyn's dog, a boxer, was also stabbed to death.
Her 22-year-old daughter Curtina Gray, who just graduated from FIU, was also stabbed but managed to escape the house before the violence took her life.
"She had to run and hide in the bushes and somebody who don't know her was coming from the store had to help," said neighbor Ieshia Moore.
Curtina was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital where she was treated and released.
Meantime, Terrilyn's former boyfriend who lived in the home up until two weeks ago, turned himself in to police.
"We just in shock that he would do something like that. It's just hard to believe" said neighbor Shalonda Walker.
Neighbors said Lucas helped out families in the area that needed assistance.
"He was a good neighbor," said Walker. "He would even take out my garbage. He was a good neighbor."
But Terrilyn's family tells a different story. They described couple's relationship as troubled. Recently the 42-year-old shared some of the problems the couple was having.
"After we went dancing she told me they got into a an argument and he jumped at her like he wanted to hit her," said Karen Wilson, the victim's aunt. "She's a good mother, a very loving grandmother and a loving niece so we will miss her."
According to court records, Lucas has a previous criminal record including charges of Aggravated Assault with a firearm and Criminal Mischief.
