VERO BEACH (CBSMiami/AP) — A 50-year-old woman has quite a story to tell after she was bitten by a shark over the weekend off Vero Beach.
It happened Sunday around noon for reports of a shark bite.
Mary Marcus, 57, told officials that she was swimming between two reefs when she was bitten on her thigh by a shark. Marcus was about 100 yards off the beach when she was bitten.
She was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Another woman was bitten in the same section of beach back in 2012. Lifeguards have nicknamed the area "shark alley."
Marcus' attack wasn't the only one over the weekend.
On Saturday, an 11-year old girl was bitten by a shark while swimming off Huguenot Memorial Park in Jacksonville. Family members said the girl was bitten on her back, arm and hand.
She has been hospitalized and will need surgery.
