Woman Arrested After Crashing While Trying To Flee From Police
OAKLAND PARK (CBSMiami) – A driver in Oakland Park, after being stopped by police, tried to flee and ended up crashing into an SUV.
Maryfe Del Pilar Nino, 31, with her boyfriend on the passenger side, was driving near the 1700 block of West Oakland Park Boulevard Saturday.
Just before 5 p.m., according to the Broward Sheriff's Office, a deputy pulled Del Pilar Nino in her Mazda.
After pulling her over, the deputy received information that Del Pilar Nino had active felony warrants for escape, resisting arrest with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer, various narcotics charges and additional resisting arrest charges, according to authorities.
When the deputy asked Del Pilar Nino to get out of her car, she did, but against deputy's orders she got back into the car. As the deputy tried to get her out of the car, her boyfriend exited the vehicle and stayed put—listening to the deputy's orders.
According to BSO, Del Pilar Nino accelerated and took off, with the deputy still retraining her left arm. The deputy fell but wasn't injured and was able to follow the suspect westbound on Oakland Park Boulevard and then north on NW 31 Avenue.
Del Pilar Nino, ran a red light and hit a southbound SUV on Commercial Boulevard. The driver of the SUV, only occupant in the car, was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Del Pilar Nino was taken into custody and will face additional felony charges.
At the time, according to BSO, Del Pilar Nino's boyfriend is considered a witness and is not facing any charges.
