Woman Allegedly Drugs Man, Steals Cars And Cash While He Slept
HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) – A 38-year-old woman allegedly went home with a man she met at a bar, gave him a muscle relaxer, and then stole his car, cellphone, and hundreds of dollars-worth of make-up and lingerie, all while he was passed out.
April Acosta, of Hollywood, appeared in bond court Friday for larceny and grand theft. She is being charged with stealing from a person over 65-years of age.
Acosta, during her bond court appearance, tried to tell the judge that he had the wrong person—but the judge didn't believe her.
Acosta, according to the complaint affidavit, met the victim at Arties Sports Bar in Hollywood on December 20. The two of them then went back to the victim's residence in Dania Beach.
According to police, Acosta gave the victim a muscle relaxant and he fell asleep.
When the victim woke up, the next day around noon, his Lincoln Town Car was gone, along with his cell phone, approximately $2300 cash, several cameras, bottles of alcohol, and two suitcases—one containing around $300 worth of make-up and other ladies lingerie also valued at $300.
Stated in the affidavit, Acosta, on January 23, admitted to taking the victim's car, cell phone and $200 cash but denied stealing any other property.
Acosta reportedly led police to where she had left the victim's car and it was recovered. None of the other belongings the victim reported stolen were recovered. Also, several art portfolios and miscellaneous tools were missing from the trunk of the car.
The victim was 69-years-old at the time of the offense and, according to the victim, Acosta knew his age. Therefore, she is being charged with theft from person 65-years of age or older.
CBS4's Carey Codd spoke to the victim by phone Friday afternoon. He didn't want to be on camera but told Codd he met Acosta years ago and helped her out and hadn't seen her until the incident last month. He said he is surprised Acosta did this to him but realizes that she is going through a difficult time in her life and actually feels bad for her.
Acosta is being held in North Broward Jail on $3500 bond.
