Woman Accused In Claire's Extortion Scheme
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami/AP) – A Plantation woman was arrested after she allegedly tried to extort millions of dollars from the family that founded Claire's stores.
Camille Brown, 21, reportedly threatened to release damaging documents concerning Rowland Schaefer's family unless they paid her $3 million. Brown is the daughter of the family's former housekeeper.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigators said the family told them Brown sent an email claiming she had derogatory information and planned to release it unless they paid her.
Undercover FDLE agents acting as the family's representatives set up a meeting with Brown on Tuesday.
Claire's, which sells jewelry and accessories popular with teens, is based in Pembroke Pines.
