Winston & Mariota Pulling Away In Heisman Race
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – As Florida State Seminoles freshman quarterback Jameis Winston prepares to face the University of Miami Hurricanes, his stock continues to soar as a Heisman Trophy contender.
According to Bovada, Winston is currently running second in Heisman Trophy odds at 11/10. He's behind only Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota who is currently a 1/1 odd to win college football's biggest honor.
Winston has completed 70 percent of his passes for 2,177 yards, 23 touchdowns and just four interceptions this year. He's put together a season for the ages and a solid performance against the Hurricanes on Saturday could further fuel his Heisman hopes this year.
The next closest competitor for the Heisman, according to Bovada, is last year's winner, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel (9/1 odds). Behind Manziel on Bovada's list are: Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron (12/1) and Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty (20/1).
As for the national championship, Bovada lists the favorites currently as: Alabama (8/5), Florida State (9/4), Oregon (9/4), Ohio State (9/1), Baylor (12/1), and Miami at (33/1).
