Wild Winter Weather Across Nation...Except S. Florida
KEY WEST (CBSMiami) – It's hard to overstate how great a weather disparity there between South Florida and the rest of the country during winter.
But Thursday morning it was again on display as one part of the country was frozen and S. Florida was ready to bake.
At 8 a.m. Thursday, temperatures in Key West were a balmy 77 degrees with a breeze coming off the water. For January 2nd, the dead of winter, that's not bad.
Roughly 2,168 miles away in International Falls, Minnesota, residents who dared to go out Thursday morning were greeted with an air temperature, not a wind chill, of -38 degrees. The temperature just an hour earlier in the Minnesota city was -41 degrees.
Both of those temperatures are life-threateningly cold temperatures and hopefully everyone stays warm and safe indoors.
For reference purposes, that's a temperature difference of 115 degrees between the two cities! (h/t to National Weather Service Key West)
On the bright side for International Falls, the temperature will warm up, relatively speaking, to 17 degrees on Friday before collapsing again over the weekend to a high temperature Sunday of -13 degrees and an estimated low Sunday night of -31 degrees.
On Sunday in Key West…it will be 80 degrees with a chance of showers.
