MIAMI (CBSMiami) --Whole Foods is recalling their Papillion Organic Roquefort cheese due to potential contamination.
The company says the product is potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. It's an organism which can cause serious and sometimes deadly infections in children, frail or elderly people or those with weakened immune systems.
The company says they decided to recall the product after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted a routine sampling and found listeria in a whole uncut wheel of cheese.
In the store, the cheese is packaged in clear plastic wrap and sold with the Whole Foods Market scale labels that start with PLU 029536. All sell by dates are affected.
Those who have eaten the cheese should seek medical attention if they experience the following symptoms: high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
