Wet Weekend Ahead For S. Florida
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - While it looks like part of the upcoming weekend will be a washout, it's not anything like what the area was facing earlier in the week.
The remnants of Chantal are looming over the Bahamas. As of this morning the National Hurricane Center has reduced the chance of redevelopment from 30% to 10%. It is looking less likely this will reform.
However, the impacts on South Florida remain the same. There is decent tropical moisture in place and we expect elevated storm chances through the weekend starting this afternoon.
The trough of low pressure associated with Chantal combined with a southwesterly steering flow will make for stormier than normal conditions through the weekend.
Expect storms to build this afternoon, becoming numerous with some flooding in spots.
Saturday will probably be the worst day with storms likely, but it will not be a complete washout.
Then on Sunday, leftover moisture means scattered storms but drier air will push in as the day unfolds so expect improving weather later in the day. We will get back to normal next week with partly sunny skies, a nice ocean breeze and a few quick showers.
