Weston-Born Amateur Rapper Taking YouTube By Storm
DAVIE (CBSMiami) - Taking a popular tune from the decade his parents were kids and making it new, hip and all his own, has made singer and rapper Jake Miller, 19, from Weston a hot sensation on YouTube.
He remixed "Ain't No Stopping Us Now" by McFadden and Whitehead, a song he re-titled "On The Move"
"I was actually in the studio recording another song, and someone, an engineer or someone, started singing 'Ain't No Stopping Us Now,' and I thought that would be a killer remix," said Miller.
Not wasting any time, Miller said he got right to work.
"I stopped what I was doing and started writing this song. I'm like 'stop what your doing we need to go on YouTube and find that original version and make the hip hop version right now'"
Jake, a self taught guitarist and drummer, began rapping at age 16.
"Is it safe to say you started like (Justin) Bieber, on the web? asked CBS4's Lisa Petrillo.
"Yeah. I started in English class. I turned all my poems into rap songs. Using Garage Band on my Mac we put them on YouTube and my friends said 'keep going,'" recalled Miller.
His very first live performance was opening for Snoop Dogg, and has since shared the stage with Mac Miller, Flo Rida, Sean Kingston and many more.
"Every song I put out on YouTube got more and more attention and started putting out more serious songs and videos and now it's more than just a hobby," said Miller.
At Vanquish Studios in Davie, Jake gave CBS4 cameras an exclusive first listen to his debut single produced by The Fliptones called "What I Wouldn't Give".
The song drops commercially in a few weeks and Jake, who writes all of his music, said he's ready for the spotlight.
"I'm ready. I've always dreamed about it- that's actually what this song is about it's about how I always dreamed about it and now I'm getting closer and closer to my dreams," said Miller.
