West Stands By Wild Jobs Report Conspiracy
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The September jobs report gave President Barack Obama some good news on the economic front a month before the election and it's spawned a conspiracy theory among conservatives, including Florida Representative Allen West.
The conspiracy theorists started in on the unemployment rate dropping from 8.1 percent in August to 7.8 in September shortly after the numbers were released. The first word came from former General Electric CEO Jack Welch who tweeted:
"Unbelievable jobs numbers, these Chicago guys will do anything..can't debate so change numbers."
From there several Fox News analysts agreed saying the timing of the drop was "convenient." The Washington Examiner Conn Caroll went further saying on Twitter, "I think a bunch of Dems lied about getting jobs. That would have same effect."
Representative West chipped in saying, "In regards to today's Jobs report --- I agree with former GE CEO Jack Welch, Chicago style politics is at work here." He continued on Facebook saying in part, "This is Orwellian to say the least."
West wasn't done with the job trutherism, if you will, saying later on CNBC that the president is "absolutely" covering up the real data.
Historically, the rate has dropped anywhere between .2 to .4 percent in some months over the last two years, which makes the .3 percent drop less of an aberration.
