West Says He'd Run As Romney's VP
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has thrust South Florida Congressman Allen West into the middle of the Republican vice-presidential speculation.
Palin said that Congressman West would be a good choice for likely Republican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney to choose as his running mate for the November general election against President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden.
"When you consider the fact that five years ago I was sitting in the desert of Kandahar, Afghanistan," West told CNN, "We don't know which path that your life may take. And if someone believes that I have the capacity to serve this country at a higher level is very humbling."
West was pressed on the topic by CNN anchor Kyra Phillips and asked if he would join the ticket if Mitt Romney asked him to.
"Well, right now the focus is on being a good Congressional representative, but if someone were to make that call to me, which I really doubt would ever happen, you would have to make sure it's something God would ordain for you and you'd have to talk with your wife," West told Phillips.
"We've always stepped up to the plate to serve our country and if it's the right fit, I'd do so," West said. "But as I said, I really doubt that that would ever happen."
When it came to whether or not West could work on the same ticket with Romney, West said it would take some discussion.
"Governor Romney and I definitely have a different vision for this country," West said. "A vision that gets us away from debt and despair."
