Wealthy SoBe Hotelier & Lohan Pal Busted For Drugs At FLL
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A multimillionaire South Beach hotelier and close friend of Lindsay Lohan was arrested at Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport on Tuesday.
According to the Broward Sheriff's Office probable cause affidavit, Vikram Chatwal was stopped by a TSA agent while trying to board a flight in Terminal 3.
"A search of the suspect's carry-on bag revealed several different types of loose white pills," according to the affidavit.
But there's more, a lot more.
Chatwal was taken aside and searched. TSA agents found a small white plastic-wrapped package in the top right pocket of his jacket. The half-gram of white powder tested positive for cocaine, the report stated.
At that point, Chatwal was placed under arrest.
A further search turned up a clear baggie hidden in the crotch of his pants. A field test confirmed 6 grams of heroin wrapped in wax paper inside the plastic bag. Also wrapped in plastic were 3.5 grams of marijuana, and a half gram of ketamine (a horse tranquilizer), according to the report.
Police also found 9 tables of Buprenorphine (an opioid), 4 tablets of Lorazepam (muscle relaxant), 3 Xanax bars and two and a half tablets of Clonazopam (sedative), along with 3 foil packets of pills that were not controlled substances, stated the report.
Chatwal had no prescriptions for any of the pills and told narcotics detectives that he bought the controlled substances illegally, the report stated.
Chatwal was booked on one count of trafficking and 14 counts of possession for cocaine and other drugs.
Chatwal owns the Dream Hotels in New York and South Beach. He and Lohan were said to be dating last year when seen shopping together and attending an art show opening. Born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Chatwal is the son of the founder of Hampshire Hotels and Resorts.
