FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- A number of waterspouts were spotted Friday off the coast of Broward County.

"This time of the year you can look out and they just drop out of the sky. I happened to be at the right place at the right time," said CBS4 Weather Watcher Bart Cuseo.

Cuseo always has his camera on hand snapped the shots of waterspouts about a mile off shore.

"I was on the deck. I just started snapping the sight of the first one over here then I got some more pictures of the one to the left," said Cuseo.

Another Weather Watcher Brooke Trace took pics as storms rolled into Lauderdale-By-The-Sea with several waterspouts from afar. From above, it looked more like a scene out of an action-packed movie with a great special effects Chopper 4 catching Mother Nature in all its glory.

"There is a cool phenomenon but not uncommon. They can be dangerous though. They don't appear that way in pictures," said CBS4 Meteorologist Michael Smith.

It was a cool sight in South Florida but one we prefer to see from a safe distance.

"It's all about location, location, location. If you're at the beach looking East and see a waterspout, you're pretty safe but if you're in the water enjoying the day, maybe you're on Biscayne Bay and a waterspout pops up it can really mess up your day," said Smith.
